A bit of advice, please, for a novice...we've two females sharing nesting duties on a clutch of eggs. We've candled the eggs and seven are fertile. Firstly, assuming they hatch, could there be trouble as there are two females, both of whom are claiming the eggs? Secondly, will the male respond well or badly to poults? We do have a spare run he could go where he could see the females and young if he's a problem.
Thanks.

I've had co-laying and co-parenting before with no problems. You will have to monitor that to see if it becomes a problem. If so, you could always separate both hens and divide the babies.

As far as the Tom, I would not allow him to be around the poults. He may try to kill them. So you will want to keep the poults away from the Tom.

I hope that this helps.

I think it all depends on the tom. Mine loves his babies and I know a gal in Canada that has no problems with her tom being around the chicks. I also think it depends on your flock and how much space they have and how well they get along. I hope that this helps!!
