Too Close for Comfort

I'd be mostly worried about them getting a person...I'm reading a book right now about Diane Whipple and the Presa Canarios that killed her...they were being raised for the Mexican Mafia and the Aryan Brotherhood and the two lawyers that were hanging onto them were stupid to even have them.
As much as I hate to admit it, I'd poison the bastards! or SSS. If the guys out on bail for Murder 1, then there's something seriously wrong with your law enforcement.
I'd borrow a gun and a lawnchair and sit out with iced tea and the portable phone, and a camera.
Good luck, Coyote.

It is partly the breed, but mostly the owner. If the worst criminal on earth let their three pound Chihuahua run loose - what could it do? But it is more an owner problem than a breed or even general dog problem for sure. Any breed can be mean and any breed can be the most stable, sweet dog on earth. Breed bans will never work, because criminals and other "tough dog" lovers/irresponsible people, will just move on to the next one. People just need to keep their dogs under control, period. I have three and am a lifelong dog lover/breeder/fancier, but I don't appreciate other people's dogs destroying my property or threatening my family.

Keep calling AC. Sometimes it is the particular AC officer that gets the report that matters. Sometimes it's just the squeaky wheel. We had a problem with our neighbor's dogs (Rottweiler and Pit mix, just for the record) coming in our yard and growling at us - including our then eight year old daughter. The first time I called AC, they told me to just work it out with my neighbor. Yeah right. The second time, I think they called the neighbor and told them to keep their dogs out of my yard, but didn't even write it up in their records. The third time, a new officer came out to our house, took a written report, asked me to take photos (which I already had) and went to visit our neighbor. When he tried to deny the dogs were over here, she told him "don't even try it, I've got pictures." She also told us to shoot the dogs if they threatened us and if they came back over, she could confiscate them. They kept the dogs up for about three months and then the Rottie was back over here, growling at us again in our own driveway. My husband is way too nice and sent them a letter, with a copy to the HOA president, stating what AC told us regarding shooting his dogs or confiscating them and putting them down. They finally put up a fence and those dogs haven't been back over here in almost a year now. Of course the neighbors don't speak do us now and have bad mouthed us to other neighbors, but at least my child is safer and any neighbors I care about or that have any sense are on my side anyway. If you have a leash law or dangerous dog law or even a nuisance dog law, AC needs to be made to enforce it.

well it is my right as a american in a free country to have my own views and i have seen more stories in the paper and on the news about pit bulls hurting some child! i am a mother of four and i don't like the dogs! i know three people who have had them and raised them as a loving dog and they still had to get rid of them or put them to sleep because of a act against another human or dog! so it is the BREED as well as sometimes the owner!

Wendy , I know it is a Free country. And the reason kstaven asked that we not start the breed bashing is because it is some thing that happend here a few weeks ago. And it turned into a huge arugment. No I dont like that breed either. But I totally agree with kstaven on this matter. We are not trying to deny you your rights, we are telling you to not start another problem on this forum. And I hope you can understand that. Just let the Pit Bull thing alone now please. I would hate to have a moderator come in and lock this thread because instead of focasing on trying to support coyotemagic, and give ideas as to how to fix the situation every body gets on here and starts slinging mud. There for I ask for the sake of this thread all negative comments to the general breed need to be left un said, and if anyone sees these post they need to be ignored. So please niether side start in about the breed but try to help coyote, and give her a shoulder.
Anyway Coyote I do hope you get this problem fixed soon, and I hope you dont loose any chickens in the long run of this mess. By the way is it really a headless chicken? I have heard of mike the headless chicken befor. I am thinking it just had a wing over her head, but I never know. Good Luck, You might think about putting up electric fence around you property, just the right size that the dog well end up touching it. Oh and turn it up full blast. Then if they make it up there then get a gun and give them led posoining. I would be careful with any other type posion because it may be your animals getting it to.Good luck and keep it up. You have support.

You can have all the opinions you want, but bottom line is that this is a privately owned forum. You were asked nicely to refrain from the commentary. There are many other forums where you can debate the morality of dogs and breeds because that is what they are for.

From the Posting Guidelines
• Flame. Flaming is verbally attacking people or groups of people - e.g. a profession, an organization, a company. Name-calling and defamatory comments are typical examples of flaming.
• Rant. Ranting is posting irate and normally unconstructive comments. It's normally used to let out frustration, but also as a form of trolling.
• Troll. Trolling is posting to provoke others, luring them to flame or rant. Trolling is sometimes done involuntary, so please be considerate when posting.

I will tell everyone flat out that this is the last time I will warn about the dog arguments. They will in future be locked at the first sign of controversy.
I hope that is clear.

It is totally clear here. And I hope I didnt ruffle anyones feathers. And I hope that it doesnt come down to locking posts because it has the word dog in it.

Have you thought about trapping them? I am not talking a small trap. Something more akin to a 8x8 foot area chainlinked off. With a chainlink tunnel to the main chamber. Put a gate at the end of the tunnel or aisle with the hinges on top instead of the side. That way if you let the weight go it'll swing itself shut. Rig up a 12 foot pole or nearby tree/structure to hold the weight of the rope. These aren't stupid dogs but they are arogant. You will need to bait them and WAIT for the mean one to be fully inside before you release the rope. After that point. Get a video camera and record just how mean and vicious these dogs are. Posting videos on youtube then contacting your Mayor or local Town Council about how to handle the NOW PUBLIC PROBLEM of these vicious dogs. It will be taken care of shortly. When you throw a problem into the public spotlight they have to take care of it, atm its only yours and few neighbors problems....

Make sure you can recycle your trap aka dont sink concrete footings into the ground ;=-p

Or you can do it Bubba style. Go HUNT the dogs hahaha. Go buy yourself a supersoaker fill it with water thats been blended with hot peppers and oil. Strain the water so it doesn't clog up your gun.

I recently had a similar problem, but the dog owner was very concerned. The dogs killed 10 chickens and I put all three dogs in my garage. I called her and told her that she could either pay me $50 a head or I would have animal control come and get them and she can pay the fines to them. The fines from them would have been $200 a head. She opted to pay me $500 directly in damages and I gave her dogs back to her. Our animal control is very serious and active when it comes to lost livestock.

In my case the dogs were a pit/lab cross, a lab and a golden retriever. All of these dogs are very people friendly and walked right up to me when I collared them.

If they were either aggressive or unknown pitbulls and the owner wouldn't work with me, I would fill a squirt bottle with ammonia and spray them in the face. After that, it is unlikely they will come back for some time. With this method, if the owner confronts you, you can tell him that it is the most humane, non-lethal way that you know of to correct the behavior. Based on the little that you have mentioned of his background, I would not shoot these dogs. It would probably make matters much worse.
