15 day old chicks, a buff Orpington and an black Orpington and a Dominique. At least that is what I was to they thought they were- from a straight run.

Dominique:

He/she is smaller than the Orpingtons- but has no problem chasing them around. I'm afraid that one is a roo. Thoughts? Here are the Orpingtons:

The black one always walks around with his/her head held up high, neck straight. Sits on/hogs the food. Maybe a roo too? I was hoping for all pullets..

They all need to be a bit older. You have a barred Rock, single comb; not a Dominique, rose comb. I think it might be a pullet, but will need to feather in a bit more to be sure.

Oh thank you! My daughter got them from a teacher at her school, the teacher didn't seem positive what they were. She was going to send them all to a farm but let us take a few home. I'll keep y'all updated, these are our first chicks and we are having so much fun! They all three have such different/strong personalities!

It is too early to sex on the Orpingtons, but the Barred Rock is most likely a male. You can tell from the white head spots. Females usually only have a dot, while males have a "splash" of white. This method of sexing is not completely accurate, though. Once the combs and feathers come in you can tell.

That's usually true, but some Dominiques from hatcheries have single combs, because the rose comb ones are less fertile, so the hatchery swaps in single-comb birds for production. It all depends on where the teacher got them (you wouldn't happen to know?). If she got them from a bin at a feed store or such, then they're most likely Barred Rocks, which are much more common than Dominiques.

All I know is the teacher got the eggs from a farm, the same farm she sent the rest back too, maybe I can ask for more information... Watch- they will all be roosters :)
