I am a newbee in using an incubator so bear with me. Directions say to keep humidity between 50 and 60 degrees...that any higher could compromise electrical equipment. I added the amount of water as instructed but now my digital incubator has indicated that the humidity has just reached 61 degrees. There are no instructions on how to decrease the humidity once it gets too high. Do I open the incubator and try to take out some of the water? Anyone have experience in this?

Yes and you are fine ) That humidity is ok. Just be careful not to let it drop to low (below 40%) . Higher is ok to about 65-70% for a bit. It is hard to regulate the humidity in the smaller incubators but just remember Momma doesn't keep a constant humidity either...she has to eat )
As long as you do not open and close it a lot it should level out. Is there a way to add water with out lifting the lid? Also make sure the lid it on as tight as can be and also it is seated properly on base. What kind of incubator? Also welcome to BYC

Is this during lockdown? Unless there is condensation on the window I'd say it's fine.

I have a syringe with aquarium tubing attached that I add and take water away with. I leave the tubing in the incubator via a hole so I don't have to open and close the lid.
THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT I DID hahaha it worked great to add a little water here and there.

Thanks for the info. There is a way to add water without lifting the lid...I place a syringe in a port to add the water. But I don't see any way to remove water without lifting the lid. I will keep a close watch on it to be sure the humidity doesn't get too much higher. If I do end up having to remove some water I will have to remove the lid and find a way to withdraw it. Good to know I don't need to panic right now at 61 degrees. Thank you.

This is the first day of incubating. I've been watching the humidity digital screen and it just now reached 61 degrees. It has been like that for about an hour. dropping down to 60 for a few minutes and then back to 61. I will keep an eye on it. I was using a turkey baster to add the water through a port designed for just that so I didn't have to open the lid. Next time I will use a syringe with tubing as you suggest. Thank you!

sometimes just lifting the lid for a minute drops the humidity to correct it too
