Too late to water-seal chicken run structure?

I buy it at my local mom/pop hardware store, but I've seen it at Home Depot as well in larger containers - it's in the paint department. I mix it 50/50 in an old spaghetti sauce jar and then use those CHEAP $1 disposable brushes for application. Then I throw everything away when I'm done - it's pretty sticky.

I have been treating my teak patio furniture with this method for over 13 years with great results. It gives the wood a waterproof barrier, a little bit of moisture and a little bit of color/sheen at the same time. Apply it in the grass as the oil will stain concrete (it will kill grass if you spill it, but little drips won't matter). I brush it on liberally, wait 15 minutes and wipe off any unabsorbed residual. I do this once a year, but to each his own.

I used Thompson's on my coop (T1-11 siding) the first year and it didn't make it through the winter. It peeled and looked just awful. I've been coating the coop (and roost bar and nest box) with linseed ever since and love it.

hope this helps!

OR............................. You could just paint it. (did I miss something?) Outdoor paint is a sealant and will protect the wood for a long time. No need to reapply yearly. Aaaaand, it'll make it look pur-dy.

Does the linseed oil smell or rub off on your clothes from your furniture? Does it actually dry completely?
