I live in Portugal. I have 3 Indian Runners, 2 Muscovies, a Portuguese (eating) duck (pet), a Call Duck and a tiny Pekin Cockerel. Last November, the weather in Portugal changed literally overnight. Everyone's ducks and chickens stopped laying eggs. In the past week or so both the Muscovies have started laying again. In the last couple of days one of the Muscovies has gone broody and has laid 2 eggs each day. Is this normal? I am worried it will take so much out of her. In the Autumn, her feathers were in awful condition but over the last months she has completely moulted into new, beautiful adult feathers. She seems happy, content and healthy. She is about 18 months old. Is she confused with the no-laying/laying situation do you think? Will she be ok or should I give her some supplement? I do put a little Apple Cider Vinegar in their drinking water fountain once a month and I occasionally crush up an egg (including shell) which I add to their food for calcium. They eat lots of fresh greenery and adore peas so I do feel that her diet is varied and very healthy. I would appreciate any advice/comments to put my mind at rest. Many thanks.

Good morning! Ducks in their first year of laying do not have a very set laying schedule. It can be pretty unpredictable until the first year. Including, dis-formed or multiple eggs. So you seeing 2 eggs is not uncommon at all! If she's happy and healthy don't worry.

Phew, thank you! I wasn't sure that ducks could/would/should lay two eggs a day so was a bit worried.
