Wow that's interesting. Not that joining a group to leanr more about chickens before you get them is a bad idea (I sure did it), but I can't imagine that kind of rule flying where I live.
They even require you to show proof! And once you put the application in, they come inspect your setup. Pretty thorough process!

No kidding! Do you have an HOA or is that a city ordinance?
No HOA and here it goes by county rather than city. It goes through the Planning and zoning department. They also send a birds eye view of your property and you need to mark on that where you put your set up. Fill out an application and pay $100 every 5 years.

Hey all!

My family is from Nebraska and have finally started the first steps to owning chickens! My husband, my kids, and I are so excited and ready to learn. The area we live in requires us to join first before we obtain any chicks. So I'm also looking forward to sharing how that goes!

That seems oppressive. In the county where we lived before we moved, the city rules were stricter than county. There's a limit on how many chickens in the city, but not in the county and you can also have other livestock like pigs and goats without a permit. The only limit is number of animals per acre in the county. But when we built our home in a neighboring county, I didn't understand there were basically no rules. I called to ask if we could run electricity to a shed in advance of the build, something that was illegal in our previous town, and the county clerk said, "Honey, it's your land, you can do whatever you want."
