Too many roo?

problem is... your sub males are just doing nothing. they dontt swell in the vent or produce much foam.(they arent sexually active) they are almost females that dont lay. even the colors on their face will dull and the male will eventually look at them as his "women" and you may see as stated in these forums before as "jailhouse lovin" so that being said. after some time of that hen laying...if no more eggs show themselves you more than likely have more roos than hens. they were prob. raised togther and thats why they arent fighting to the death. those sub. males have no say in what they do and dont do.

Thank you so much. All of this info makes a lot of sense. We are culling roo's today

Wow! You definitely cannot judge sex unless they crow or lay an egg. Period. I culled all of the roo's that I had in question today. Unfortunately one of the so-called "dominant roos" was a hen. She chased the females just like the other roo and never had any other birds interested in her.

Darn. Oh well, live and learn, right?

My absolutely worst quail was a hen , she would beat the crap out of anything... came this close to culling her, and suddenly she behaved... if i had another to replace her with i would have culled her!
