I purchased 6 baby bantam chicks not knowing what I would get. One died the first day, but the other 5 are doing really well. they are now 8 weeks old and low and behold I have 4 roos and only 1 hen. I also have 6 leghorns hens 10 weeks old. Will these roos be okay or do I need to get rid of a couple? and by "Get Rid of" I mean give away or trade.

Hi! A good hen to roo ratio is 10 hens to 1 rooster....My flock is small--I've got 13 hens, so I try to keep just one rooster.

I don't have alot of experience with bantams though, so I hope others will look at your posting and offer some advice....

I'm sure everything will work out fine for you,

Sharon

In the same boat....11 chicks, 5 are roosters.
I'll keep one. The others are going back to the farm (where I purchased the chicks) on Thursday. I'll miss those crazy silly dancing boys - but they've got to go. Farm has 150+ chickens, so a few more roosters are going to be fine.
Good luck - Craigslist is a good starting point.
