so I’m unsure if this means I have too much fermentation or not but my feed started getting that white filmy later with white bubbles that is hard to mix into the rest. Is that normal? It doesn’t smell any different, maybe a bit more sour but bit stinky like rotten or moldy at all. Just curious. Thank you!

That is yeast that has formed on the top and perfectly normal. You can add a little more water to mix it in but it is ready to feed.

Thank you! I started fermenting it last week and have been using it since it was ready. I just refill with water and more feed when I take some out.
Thank you for the advice.
You back slop, I ferment fixed amounts for 3 days. But I also ferment mostly whole grains so I have to strain it.

I back slop my fermented also. I feed out most of my container daily, leaving about 1 cup, then I add more feed and water. I have the white film the next morning.

I don't know how much you know about fermenting, but if you go away or just have to much on hand, you can put the container in the refrigerator and it will stop fermenting. I do this all the time when I go on vacation. When I get home I take it out, so it's ready to feed in the morning.
