I did it!!! I placed my very first ever chick order! I'm gonna get baby chicks :wee

I ordered from Meyer Hatchery, I actually had a gift certificate that a friend gave to me when I first bought my home 11/2015....I know, its been along time coming.

Anyway I ordered 5 chicks, one each Black Australorp, BO, Welsummer, Speckled Sussex and BLW. OMG, OMG, OMG..

Now gotta work on my shed to coop conversion this weekend because they will be here before I know it.

That's so exciting! I've read good things about their hatchery. Do they add warmers to the shipping boxes during winter? Someone ordered from Meyer's recently, and the chicks didn't arrive on the day they were expected. Please let us know how this experience goes for you.

Also, are they sending you a surprise chick?

Congrats!!! I remember my first chicks! I ordered them before my mom, who lives with me, could change her mind and say no. After I ordered them to be hand delivered, I took the day off and then freaked out. (edited to add... I freaked out of happiness, after I realized I was scared of birds LOL)

I think you are smart to get started on your coop. I waited because i didn't think it would take a long time to build my coop and was building til the last minute to get it done before the girls got too big.

Congrats! Those chicks should make a very attractive flock! It's good that you're getting started on your coop right away. Hubs built ours from scratch, and our babies were a full 6 weeks old, and busting at the seams in our spare room, by the time our coop was ready.

NOTE: We ordered from Meyers, too (2 times actually), and both times were very pleased with them. In another comment on here, someone asked if Meyers supplied a heat pad and an extra chick. Yes, they supplied a heat pad. The first time we ordered from them, they did send an extra chick, the second time, no extra chick. Enjoy!
