Entry 3

Twister
Hatch date: March 2023, deceased 😢
Azure Blue

Twister and her 2 sisters arrived here by a fluke, I wasn’t looking for more hens, but someone had ordered them and then didn’t want them, so the feed store asked me if I was looking for any more. So home they came.

Friendly funny birds all of them, but Twister was a complete suck and would
Visit me in the office in the barn, even joining in Teams Meetings for work.

She developed crop stasis last summer and I couldn’t resolve it, she passed away in Aug 2025 😢

Entry 4

Mr P
Age: 5
Colour: cream-white
Polish

Mr P came from a lady who wanted to rehome him, I had already dealt with a few really naughty young cockerels, and my hens were extremely relieved when I re-homed the previous cockerels. So my getting another Roo was stressful to me.

But I needn’t have worried, Mr P has been a complete gentleman, all the ladies love Mr P, they all want to hang around with him, and try to monopolize his time - poor guy! He’s getting older now so I try to make sure the younger hens don’t pester him too much, his main harem are my older Silkies.

Entry 1 ~ Goldie my almost 1 year old Easter egger! Goldie is my miracle rooster. He hatched from a cold egg after his mother abandoned the nest with his siblings that had already hatched, he had already pipped when I found the two eggs left in the nest. They were cold... Really cold. I didn't think they were still alive but I saw slight movement and then I heard a chirp! I rushed them inside and got them warmed up, they were severely shrink wrapped cold and weak. But after several hours and some assistance the two abandoned eggs hatched! Goldie was weak but survived and is now thriving. Sadly his sibling passed almost 24 hours after hatching. Rest in peace Rainbow. I tried to reintroduce Goldie in with his broody Mama and his three older siblings Shamrock, Paddy, and Clover but Mama wanted nothing to do with him - so he became my sweet little baby! I did get him some friends when he was about a week old. And just my luck all three of them are boys! But they're all such sweet boys and Goldie has become the head of our flock! My sweet miracle boy❤️

Entry 3 ~ Daffodil 8 month old Toulouse mix goose! Daffodil was my first ever farm hatched goose. I hand turned, misted, and cooled her egg. Out of the seven eggs I had incubated hers was the only one to make it to lockdown. It was an amazing experience! I hope to do again when she starts laying. She is such a sweet goose who is pretty imprinted on me! ❤️

Oh he is splendid! What a gorgeous handsome Roo, I am so glad you were able to save him 🥰

This is Black Betty, my Bantam Ameracauna Mix, actually an Easter Egger. Her eggs are green, but oblong, because her egg-hole is too narrow. She is my best layer. She likes to look at herself in the mirror. She likes herself, but doesn't care much for the other 2. We call her Betty the Bully. They usually stay clear of her. The only time we can touch her is on the roost.
I think she's part magpie. She always tries to lay her eggs in a box where another hen has already laid, or she will even go in & shove their egg out onto the floor to lay hers. She never tries to set on them. Just lays & leaves.

Entry 2 ~ Lucy 1 year old black copper maran hen! Lucy is new to our flock but has quickly become one of my favorite hens! She is so sweet and loves to follow me everywhere. ❤️View attachment 4298718

She has character 😊 I have a few like that, they are all individuals aren’t they?
