I am the Chicken Whisperer in our house. Wife and I have been talking about adding 2 maybe 4 more chicks to our 2 year old flock of 8 hens. So I noticed when I was in town this morning that our local feed store had the "Chicks are here" sign out. I went home and told wife they had chicks in town. after, a few hours I decided to go get the alotted chicks (2 to 4) and get the chore of being a mom again started and done with. I asked wife is she would like to go, and she said "yes!" as we are approaching the store, the basic conversation from her was this "don't go wild, we only need a few chicks!" There goes my plan of doubling the flock I figure. After wife see's "the babies" I walk out with my 3 Leghorns as planned, and her 2 Silkies, 2 game birds, and a mystery chick that we are told was a black silkie, but we are pretty sure it's a Black Austrolorp. So the chicks are in the small rubbermaid brooder in the sunroom, I will start on the bigger brooder tomorrow morning that will be set up next to the hen house. We have a very interesting mix of hens now.
