Took wife to the feed store

Congrats on your new additions to the family.

After all the reports of chicks being available already, I went to the feed store today to get some "cat litter" (really, it's cheaper there)
I was sooooooooooooooo sad, they didn't have any chicks yet. I wasn't planning to *buy* any. I have my chicks already ordered. I was just planning to cuddle them a bit.

Really. that's all. Cuddle them. A bit.

And, well, if there happened to be a small box hanging around the area? And some chicks just happened to hop in the box? Well, you know you just can't resist prepackaged chicks.

But they didn't have any and I won't need cat litter for another month.

What else can I buy at the feed store in a couple of weeks?

I didn't know you could find them in February! I need more feed. Maybe I should look he he he. I have a flock of 13 (20 weeks old), if I get some will the older ones attack the younger ones when they are old enough to go to the coop?

Cass you don't have to wait to go to the feed store to pick up feed. I think it's important for you to go much more often and check out labels on feed that you may or may not buy at a latter time. You know how labels change, it's good to keep up with them and of course have a roving eye /sharp ears to listen for/see any new feathered arrivals. I call this a pre-emptive strike.

I haven't had to buy feed since the ducks flew away. They were supposed to fly away and finally did when the pond totally froze over. But I did check out feed labels when I was in for cat litter. I'm not amused with the selection at the local TSC, so I will have to find another feed store and take the big truck to get feed. (When I have chickens that is) Tenets left a 35 pound bag of cat food, so I won't need that any time soon. I *guess* I could go to find out prices of other things (scratch grain, oyster shell, flock block) so when I find another feed store (Agway, probably) I will know if the prices are good. Yeah. That's it. Comparison shopping. In a few weeks. I know where the chicks were last year, so I might just walk past them by accident.

I'm sure my SO won't notice a *little* peeping a few weeks before my chicken order is ready. Right?

Our local feed store has had them for about a week now. There is a much bigger one down in the valley that I called this morning, and they are not getting chicks until the end of the month. I understand that you have to do a gradual intro of the younger ones to the older flock. This is why I'm putting the outdoor brooder near the main coop, I figure that on nice day's when I let the young ones out in the covered brooder run, the older ones will be able to see them through the hardware cloth and get to know them. We will see.

Yes, we were really surprised that the feed store had Silkies. They had White Silkies, Black Silkies, and Blue Silkies. I am going back tomorrow to get wife a Blue Silkie to add to her collection from today. I think because we have a very active and large FFA at the local High School, is the reason the feed store carries the Silkies. Funny thing is, that she doesn't pay attention to our older flock, but is calling these new Silkies "Her babies".
