Yeah, most dual purpose breeds are large birds that can't handle extreme heat, try to stick to the slim, lightweight birds, with large single combs, waddles, and clean legs. Like the leghorns.

That is true. I'm out here in the desert in AZ. I had the cute big fluffy butt Australorps, and those are the type that handle heat the worst, so I sold my Australorp flock to a lady in Colorado. This year I have gone with the White Naked Necks (also a dual purpose breed), and they are fairing the heat here much better because they have less feathering. They are laying big eggs well, too!

Naked necks are awesome birds, that would be another good option. Yeah, a black australorp will not do well in that weather...

It’s definitely hotter where I am. The birds she gets will more than likely be from breeds sold at tractor supply or the other feed stores in the area. They won’t be fluffy or feather footed breeds they will most definitely be brown egg layers. I will however inspect the hens that she does receive for things like mites and scaly leg mites but I’ve seen where she will be getting them from as we both know the person she isn’t a random Craigslist add I’ve been to the property so I’m not too worried about health and if she gets a hatch with surplus roosters they will more than likely stock the deep freezer. I imagine it would be the same as me collecting eggs from my own chickens like she originally asked but my coop is in the sun so they have been drifting the yard so they can go where they need to be cool and they either aren’t laying as much or they have clutches I haven’t been clever enough to find. I hatched a bunch of eggs from my own chickens in June and they are doing well but I had noticed that I may have a least four roosters out of twelve and I have talked to my husband about a deep freezer.

When I had my Australorps, I had them in the B/B/S colors. They weren't the ones from the hatcheries.

California White hens are my top layer currently, although the males can be flighty and violent with people. I've found the hens to be the opposite-friendly, docile, and calm. Also quiet.

OP lives in Cali.
I live in southern Wisconsin, the leghorns usually get pretty bad frostbite on their combs the first winter if you don't have a heated coop.
