Top Hat Chicken: How Was In Made And What's In One ?

i understand houdans, polish, crevs, and such count as them. but i got a rooster and a hen that are black and an orange borwn color that were given to me . the person called them top hats. thats why im drawing a blank

Top Hat is just a name commonly slapped on crested breeds by hatcheries. They do include the breeds you listed. Each breed has its own origin, though. Most derive from France.

Black and Orange-Brown would be a Gold Laced Polish.

I always thought that "top hat" was just a category of the breed. I thought they were called that because the feathers on there heads look like a hat.

"top hat" is a simpler name placed generically on chickens with tufts or crests on their heads. Kinda like some folks call barred-rocks and dominiques, "dominiquers". {dominikers} Funny

When seen in Games they are called a 'Toppy.'
