So after the last bad heat wave, I noticed my 7 year old Roo has been walking a bit off. I don't know if it was too much watermelon, or dehydration, or something else, but he has developed a quirk where when he walks it looks like he is trying to constantly kickstart a motorcycle. (and back-kick)

Other symptom... Loss of leg strength. He will sit on the ground instead of (lower) roosting bars.

Any suggestions???

Sounds like he's feeling pain in his leg or foot. I would look it over good to see if you see anything. At 7 years of age he could be feeling some arthritis. How high up are your roosts?

The roosting bar he uses is about 2&1/2 feet off the ground. I suspect the recent heat wave was hard on him.

I myself ended up with cyatica from dehydration in the calf and thigh. There's a 2nd roo that keeps the first one pretty busy.

Guess it's time to build him the flat platform I have been promising him.

The second roo might have jumped on him, or is chasing him around more. Might want to keep an eye on them. Hope your leg feels better soon.

The "old man" runs the roost while the young roo chases the ladies... Which means the old Roo is constantly chasing the young roo.

He seems better today. In the mean time... I added on "Franken coop extension #3"

Thanks. Drinking hot tea with honey and ginger atm... Old roo seems to be doing better on his own. Also watching John Kilpatrick atm.... Good series called "vexed"
