Please help! My 25 week old hens beak is broken almost half way across the top, right where the beak meets her face. Is this repairable? I have a vet app in a few hours. How will I feed/water her?

Pictures? I’ve heard of a lot of birds surviving with a broken beak but it depends on the situation I’m sure.

I am sure that any bird with a broken beak can survive, but depending on the damage may not be repairable. It will likely not grow back based on the description(from what I have read, never actually experienced this before), and she may need assistance when eating/drinking. Good luck! Pictures would be very helpful for the experts to determine what they believe is a good solution so you can decide what to do.

Thank you so much for all your feed back! We took her to the vet and they removed the entire top mandible (shell of the beak) off. Then they put a thick coat of fast drying, non toxic glue on the surface. Basically like an acrylic fingernail. It is to protect the soft (meat) portion of the beak, as it is just like loosing a fingernail. The vet gave us some pain meds for her and also an antibiotic, as that area is super sensitive and could become infected. She seems to be doing okay. It must be uncomfortable for her but she is eating and drinking (with some hesitancy). They said it could take quite a while for it to grow back. And if the glue begins to fall off we can go back in and have them coat it again. I am praying it grows back straight. Glad we have a poultry vet close to home. Thanks again for all your help!

This was after they applied a clear thick coat of glue to her top mandible. Her top beak was dark and now it is fleshy color..
