Again, I find myself asking for help. I'm a relative newbie to chicken raising. My rooster has a torn comb. I don't know how it happened and he doesn't seem bothered by it. It appears that it was torn from the lower back of his head. The very end of the comb (it looks like an ear lobe0 has turned black. This happened last week and it appeared to be healing but last night it started bleeding again. I tried to clean it and put some Bacitracin ointment on it but it was hard to hold him still. What else should I do?

There doesn't sound like there is much to do. He probably either caught it on something or somebody's beak. Are there other roosters in the flock. It seems like they go for each other's combs in a fight.

Thanks, I'll try to post some photos of it. It definitely looks better today, however, the black part of the comb will hae to come off. How do I do that? Cutting it off sounds a bit scary. Do I just snip off the torn black part. Aren't there lots of blood vessels in the comb? Should I just take him to my Vet? Any advice will be appreciated.
