Chickens Comb,

Hey everyone,

I have three, 8 week old bantam Cochins . This morning my girl Lenore was a bit more clingy than usual. She wanted to sit on my lap. I noticed a triangular slit in her feathers on the top of her head. Part of her comb is missing! No blood, just a bare triangle slit and partially missing comb, like it was cleanly scalped off. Should I put anything on it? A dab of neoprene, virgin coconut oil, raw honey, or just leave it alone and monitor it? She is eating, dust bathing, frolicking, all normal behavior, just a bit more clingy to me. Any advice is welcome. Thank you!

I don't see anything wrong with her comb from the pictures. It looks like a normal comb. Do you have others the same age you can compare? Or before phot

Oh God, I just compared to other pictures. There is nothing wrong. The feathers were just split. I feel so foolish. New chicken mom and maybe a bit more stressed than I should be. Maybe just an off day. Wow! I really feel like an idiot.

No worries! It's awesome that you are paying such close attention to their health. That's not a bad thing at all.

Glad she's healthy! She's going to be so fluffy when she's older!
