Three of my hens who had taken off for molting and over the winter laid their first egg today. Due to the fact I have various mixes and breeds within my flock I know who the layers were, one marans and two olive eggers. One of the olive eggers is a daughter of the marans. All three eggs were long and shaped like torpedoes. Previous these hens had laid normally shaped extra large eggs. I'm assuming the shape is because they are just starting up again after a layoff? Any idea how long it will continue?

Could be......only time will tell.
How's that for a vague answer?

Had a torpedo from a back from molting bird recently...was an OE too...just the one, maybe two, tho.
Funky eggs happen..... often there's no real, or discernible, cause.

Thought it V E R Y strange since all are at least two or three. None had laid eggs like this before and after a vacation of three months (last laid in October) they all laid these eggs on the very same day, their first day back laying. Weird birds.

I have small white-ish torpedo shaped oval eggs. I’m thinking they’re from one of the Bantam chickens. I have not been able to catch the one who started laying these. The other 4 are for comparison of the regular daily eggs from the Easter Egger, light Brahma and barred rock... any ideas? I do have a Barbu d’Ucclé...

You'll have to catch them in the act to know for sure.
That shape has more to do with the individual bird and their shell gland than any one breed.

I have a hen who lays eggs like those all the time. I think they're pretty fun to get.
They are fine for eating, not so good for hatching.
