Total novice in need of help

I tried to upload my pic, but it won't show up. Stupid phone. I run an extension cord. My heating pad has been sitting around the house for years. Any one will do as long as it stays on. Here is one of the big threads https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/956958/mama-heating-pad-in-the-brooder-picture-heavy-update

Some also use a wooly hen, which doesn't seem to use electricity. Think of a little garage with straps of wool hanging down, so the chick's can snuggle inside and trap body heat.

Have fun! If you use the search feature there are many more threads than these two. Successes, tips, failures, pic, etc.

Welcome! And enjoy!

Welcome!

As you have already received some great advice and links to some good starting points, I will just wish you all the best.

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

If you would like to share pictures and stories of your flock, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out

Thank you everyone for the warm welcome. The chicks are now outside after escaping and they seem to be happy and healthy. I had no idea they would be so much work and that they would all have little personalities. It's such fun. My children adore them and even my husband loves them too - he went out to check on them at 11pm last night just to make sure they were all fine.
