I would be quite surprised to have silkie hens as battery hens? They have a strong tendency to go broody and lay less eggs.

I don't think the silkies are battery hens, we were just making comparisons between birds that are suddenly faced with an enriched environment that they're not used to

Do their combs shrink back down after growing that big? Or do they just stay that way?

Yes, they eventually looked totally normal xx

Yeah, they'd be a total failure as battery hens.
They are raised in large numbers for meat though. The Asian market near me has a big freezer full of them. There must be 500 silkies in there.
