totally frustrated with my LG so getting a new incubator

OH and no it was not just about the money. The money was the least of my pain. I want good SQ Buff silkies so bad that I am about to drive to someone's farm and pick them up. Of course I can't do that as no one near me in Ohio has them.

One day I will. One day I will have a barn full of those beauties.
I am keeping my eye on the prize. :)

Oh, no, I know it's not about the money ... I didn't want you to think that I was saying I was sorry because of the money lost. It's about the chicks. And I know when I order eggs through the mail that I am risking losing that money completely because the chances of getting shipped eggs to hatch are low. It's like that last ditch way to do it. But sometimes that's all we've got.

It's too bad you can't find some silkies (SQ w/beards) within a couple of hundred miles because that would be almost a sure deal and eggs through the mail aren't. The cost of a new incubator $125 +/- would buy a fair bit of gas. And $70 more would buy a lot of live chicks. Or maybe you could wait until better weather and have someone ship 25 live chicks?

Okay. Wait. I'm meddling now. Sorry. I'm backing away from keyboard.

Lily what is your household humidity? Also how do people hatch in the summer when the outdoors humidity is high?

Quote: I am certain that I will wait until spring if I don't get some now, but I am aching inside to get some. I have gotten shipped ones from Ideal but those are the ones my dog and the rats ended up getting. They are not very good quality though and I want really nice beards and crests. I am going to make them their very own coop for safety when I get them.
My hens have a nice coop, but the silkies need a better insulated one for winter. I have about a third of my back yard now fenced in for them to free range in and the entire thing is covered with bird netting for their safety. I am not taking any more chances with predators.

My house humidity is right around 20 to 25% right now but then it's winter. In the summer I don't add any water and usually we run 30 to 35% for the first 18 days and up to 65% for the last. I live up north so this time of year we have relatively low humidity. Would be the perfect time to hatch if we could get the temps about 20 degrees outside lol.

Testing my incubator in a new spot and it's very in the open and exposed to two outside doorways but has been rock steady for both temp and humidity so far.

Thank you to everyone who helped me. I just purchased a Brinsea 20 on Amazon for 214 shipped and that is the one with the egg turner in it. Ebay had them for about 275 including shipping. So Amazon was a great deal. I am going to sell my two LG incubators and the turner for 70 on Craigs list, so that will be part of the payment, so for 130 it is worth it to possibly never go through again what I just went through.
When I get it, I am going to hatch farm eggs that I can get for a couple bucks, FIRST. Then when the time is right some beautiful SQ Silkies are going to come from it.
I love LOVE to hatch babies. I raise birds and have done this for about eight years. So this incubator will get a life time of use for me.

God bless you all that helped me decide.
