That was probably the best thing you could do
 
I have them in a smaller box, she is still peeping a lot. Its harder to keep part of it cooler since the box is smaller, but the other chick seems to be comfortable.
I didn't have any vasoline so I put A&d ointment on her vent..I figured that would serve the same purpose.
How can you tell if they are too hot?

If they are too hot then they will be spread out away from the heat source, panting.

We separate her with a another smaller one and I haven't had to clean off her butt in two days!
