Along with my laying hens and different purebred chickens, I have a band of banty chickens that are 100% free range.self-reproducing and very tough. These chickens are every color of the rainbow and lay eggs of different colors ( white, tinted, green and blue). Old English Game bantams,Black Sumtra, Phoenix and banty EE are in the genetic background of these birds. I have seen nests in the wood from the hens but I don't see chicks until they are about 2 weeks old. These little chicks can run and fly with the best of them. I just feed them what ever grain I have in my buckets at the time.I have about 30 of them now and the can escape predators with ease. I am amazed how tough they really are...this gang stay in my old barn for the winter and become friendly but wary during this time. Does anyone esle here on BYC have chickens or other poultry that may fall into this category. Cheers!!
