tough little quail eggs.

a little over 2 weeks ago i put 15 of my coturnix eggs in the bator. yesterday 8 hatched. we were in the middle of a heat wave and my air conditioner stopped working 3 days into the incubation. i came home that night and my bator temp was 106. i thought for sure nothing would hatch. i think they are the most forgiving eggs i have ever hatched.

Yes I have had that happen to and a lost a hatch . Glad you got some to hatch. I must constantly check temps on my home made cabinet incubator since house tempeture varies as much as 20 degrees somedays. I am not the wealthy owner of an a/c

I came home once and because I was pet setting dogs I had moved the incubator indoors. The babysitter apparently wasn't watching and the kids turned the dial. It was 135 degrees when I got home! I don't know how long it was that hot but it was only 3 days till the hatch and I was So upset. I've hatched so many chicks and everytime I feel the same disappointment and fear of them not hatching.... anyways. They hatched perfectly on time. Maybe the incubator hadn't been hot long enough for the eggs to warm up too but I was AMAZED. I almost threw them out right then but it was so close I just couldn't. So glad I didn't!



Baby sitter is in hot water now..... I hatched out a batch of pied button chicks and I had 7 whites and 7 white winged chicks of 30 eggs and 26 chicks!!! This was the first very successful color experiment as buttons don't breed true. Anyways... sitter left the cage door open and the cat found it as an invite. I was so upset when i came home and saw the cage empty!

The first time with the incubator I was forgiving but with my first pied success I was on a rampage. i'm usually so mellow but just the look on my face everyone ran away. My kids knew someone was about to get it. I haven't been that mad in so long! What if it were my kids!!!!!!! Ok... breathe.... OK wont vent here but yes.... I was IRATE!
