Tough membrane on Bobwhite eggs?

I have two females that are laying, these eggs are darn near impossible to breach, the shell breaks fine but the membrane is so tough by the time I get it open the yolk is ruined. I am feeding gamebird starter at 24% protein. Thanks for any replies.

Could it be that they are getting too dry? See if you are able to crack a completely fresh one.

As soon as I see them I collect them, I can't imagine they are more than 2-3 days old?

It Aint easy just to crack and peel them. It can be done its a slow process and you must keep them in water until you pick them up to Pinch the air sack and peel delicately. Or just soak them in vinegar and the darn things just slide off. just another step in peeling them thats smelly and a little more work
