The vet I just took my duck to said to rub Preperation H cream on the bottom of my duck's feet to toughen them up. Has anyone heard that before? She is used to working with raptures in New Mexico. What do you think? Not the oily kind, but the creme.

I'd think they get tough enough walking. Prep H basically causes vasoconstriction, or in short, decreases blood flow to the tissues it is applied, which is how it works for it's regular purpose.

I took one of mine to the vet with bumblefoot, and she suggested toughing them up with Preperation H. I live in Alaska. My ducks are inside most of the time during the winter. They have pine shavings for bedding.

They will be outside most of the time in the spring and summer. Right now I have five feet of snow in my back yard.

I use Pad Heal on the bottom of my ducks feet. I originally bought it for my Labs because of all the field training we do, they get cuts on their pads, but tried it on my ducks and I have cut down on the healing time with bumble. I also think it has helped prevent it from reoccurring. I only put it on about once a week for maintenance and every other day when I find cuts or bumble. There is also a product called Pad Tough, but I haven't used it.

Thanks - that is a great idea. I wish this snow would hurry up and melt. My fence is buried at this point, but once it starts melting it goes pretty fast. It was 43 here yesterday. So spring is in the air!!!! : )
