Toulous? Pilgrim? Mixed breed? What did I just buy?

yep not all Toulouse are created equal. As not all Africans are created equal.

You get Dewlaps in both Africans and Toulouse. These were the original forms of the breeds and what is showable.

Then you get Utility (production) African and Toulouse made for mainstream farm and table birds to be sold at a lesser price tag.

In this case the lesser price tag was 15 bucks! I love the wild coloring of animals so I have always like toulouse because of their wild greylag goose coloring. I am excited to know her breed and I will keep in touch about her sex and behavior transformation. Thanks everybody.

Ursula is all adjusted to her new home. I don't think she was ever allowed to free roam (she seemed very lost at first). She discovered that grass was delicious here today and stood in one spot pigging out. She has a very nice voice (my sebbies are ear-piercing). Here she is in their nighttime accommodations:

So happy to hear she is settling in.

I'm glad you posted this. We have the exact same goose. I bought him and a big Chinese male off of craigslist for 20 bucks. The guy told me it was an African male, so I just assumed that's what he was, but after seeing your pictures, mine is the same so I guess I have a Toulouse. Heck it may even be a she? Mine is pretty big and it acts more like a male than a female though. I dunno, I don't raise geese, our geese are just pets, so it doesn't matter to me anyway. When I got them they were both nasty, hissing & biting, but after spending time with them the African/Toulouse or whatever he/she is (LOL) is awesome. We call him "Biggun". He comes to see me and waits for me to walk down to feed, then walks beside me the whole way. He talks to me and carries on, chattering like an old nagging woman LOL, it's hilarious. He will eat out of my hand and let me pet him.Good luck with yours, we love ours He's the friendliest goose we have.

Wow, they ain't even close. I guess I should've looked them up myself, but never thought about it. Well mine is definitely a toulouse. If I can figure out how to, I will post a pic of it to see if it's a he or a she.

Interesting. I guess I just assumed since the Chinese geese we have were so easy to tell apart, that all geese were. I will try to get some pictures up. I suck at posting pictures.
