Toulouse goose can fly?

My Tuft Roman was roming outside one day, when I had to leave for 1/2 hour, I closed up the big pen so the ducks would not get out. but left him wandering with the tom turkey (they were strutting poppas). when I returned 1/2 hour later he was back in the closed fenced in area hanging with momma goose who was setting on her nest. the only way he could get back in to this penned in area would have been to fly over a 6ft fence.

Small breeds like romans and buff are better at flying than large breeds. I’ve still seen my Toulouse rarely on occasion leap up and fly at about five feet, but at their body size with underdeveloped flight muscles compared to wild birds they generally can’t maintain it for more than a few moments so they tend to not bother with it most of the time. Younger birds are more likely than older birds too, they’re lighter and their wings can take them further.

my goose vanished I was there visiting around a year ago and when I went to see him a few days ago he was no longer there. He was quite large around 3 ft tall and had a wingspan of around 7ft and a beak length of around 30cm. He was grey and had white fluffy fat bits under his belly and made an alarming noise when petted. He had no goose friends due to his size as he would just stand on them accidentally. I never witnessed him flying but in the middle of the night there was sometimes a tremendous bang which I believe to be him landing in the lake. If you know them migrate please let me know so I can track him down . I hope he returns safely.

The production Toulouse yes, Standard and Exhibition dewlaps, definitely no. I think I’ve seen my smallest exhibition type goose get like, an inch in the morning power-run? At that point it’s basically a hop.
