Hello my goose decided to start setting yesterday, unfortunately I don’t want any babies so when she was off nest I stole her egg and put a plastic egg in it’s place. This is her 1st year of setting and rather than lock her out of her nest I thought it was best to give her a plastic egg. Anyone else ever done this?

No, but taking her egg will not harm her either physically or mentally. Question, are you sure she only had one egg in the nest. Geese are really good at hiding/burying their eggs. And, it is unlikely she would start sitting with only one egg. My females typically don't sit a nest until they have 10-20 eggs in it.

I agree. Usually a bird will not go broody until she has a few eggs under her. At least 5, 10 is more typical.

Thank you for your information. I have pulled probably 20 eggs from her, yesterday was the 1st time she ever attempted to sit. Do you all recommend leaving her with the plastic egg or just take it away and keep her locked out from nest?

She finally just gave up, and decided to make due with 1!

Well... I would let her hatch a few, and if I didn't want to keep them sell them.

But you said you didn't want to do that sooooooo

Yes, I would keep taking the eggs until she gives up.
