Tour de Coop!!

I was thrilled when our neighbor knocked on our door to ask if we wanted to be part of this year's Tour de Coop - yes of course! But then I got to thinking about all these people walking around different chicken yards. Am I paranoid to set up a foot sanitizing station before people come into our backyard? If I'm not crazy, what chemical should I use?

You are not paranoid.

Buy some Oxine (you will not need the "activator" stuff) and put it in a spray bottle, diluted, 6 ounces per gallon of water, and ask visitors to spray their shoes before entering your Chicken Area.

Thank you for the great information and the validation. I think I will feel so much better not worrying about every little sneeze after the visitors come through, and I would absolutely hate to lose one of my girls.

I agree with you. We're on our local coop tour this year, too, and I'm setting up a disinfectant shoe bath like the one described in the link in this thread:

Your other option is buying those disposable shoe covers.

Dilute bleach is an excellent option as well.
