Toyota owners

I love my Toyota .. and it was made at an American factory .. by American workers.

It's also a standard, with manual windows, and manual door locks .. They looked at me like I was an alien when I told them I wanted as little electronic stuff as possible ..

Call me old fashioned.

My father always bought Toyotas, my husband loves them, but I'm with Mahonri, I stick to Ford. I have never had a major problem with my Ranger, and it's got over 120K on it. Our '98 Tacoma succumbed to the frame problem, we did get quite a bit of money for it, old as it was, which is why we have the 2009 Camry now. Personally I prefer to buy American (yes, I know, Toyotas are made here now, but the money goes back to Tokyo, not Detroit).

The Ford company deserves to be put on Hero status right now. They were smart enough to not take our money, they turned in a decent earnings statement last quarter and the money stays right here in the country on almost every level.

All that being said, this is America and you can decide to do your part or not, thats the great part of being a citizen. Its all good

If the gas pedal sticks, the best thing to do is SHUT OFF THE VEHICLE.

I own a Prius. Wouldn't get rid of it for the world. Even if I have a breaking issue (Toyota won't admit to it, but it does extend back to the Gen II prius, which mine is) and the sticking accelator.

I'll buy American when they can match the gas mileage without breaking the bank (tesla roadster) for a car.

No, no, no, do NOT shut off the vehicle. You lose your steering and your brakes. Get the vehicle into neutral, but DO NOT shut off the car.

The Prius was recalled this morning for the braking issues.

And shutting off the vehicle is NOT the best thing to do. You lose steering because the steering wheel locks when the vehicle is off. Better to shift into neutral and firmly apply the brakes. Toyota recommends using both feet on the brake pedal.

ETA an interesting note- a lot of the parts on the cars from the Big Three are made overseas.
I drive a Honda, which was made mostly in Canada.

How many parts on your ford are made in CHINA? And how many AMERICANS made those parts in China? None, zip, zero

Now back to the original post it is more of a warning about the problems that Toyota is going thru and safety and not how the AMERICAN vechicle (IYO) is the best

FYI: the origianl gas pedal problem started with the buyer buying a heavy duty snow, mud mat to go ontop of the factory carpet mat, this made the bottom of the pedeal get stuck under the rubber mat.
Now there is a differnt problem.

If you drive a Toyota and the pedal gets stuck please keep your head and use the emergency break, yes there will be smoke, burnt rubber etc. but it just may save you and others around.

That's a parking brake, shift to Neutral, apply all breaks (standard breaks first), then the parking brake- after reaching a full stop turn off the car then release the breaks.

07 Corolla, 08 Camry ... *sigh* I want my 00 Echo back...
