Okay, despite the 106 degrees outside today, I went ahead and put the roof on. Here are some pictures of the tin on. still need to cool coat, but Steph is the painter and she's not here. Tin was scrap we had laying around.
ugh, i really need to get the back doors on the storage area, it's already all cut! maybe this evening.
Here are some yard shots of the run and various closeups of the doors and windows.
you can see the vent between the coop and run, along with the pulleys and rope i use for closing the pop door.
That is a thermometer hanging in the window, facing out. this way i can check the temp from outside at night without bothering them.
and closed. that's just a 1x4' sheet of plexi with 1x2's to stiffen it and attach the hinge and latch to. the cutout piece of plywood fits behind the plexi and acts as a good light/ extra wind barrier, should i need it.
hanging 5 gallon feeder, adjustable height by moving which link the clasp is through. i can also hang it off to the side on a hook if i want more room (cleaning) or dont want them to get to the food for whatever reason. bucket is easily removed by undoing the clasp for filling/cleaning. For water, i'm using a paint roller tray at the moment. it has worked surprisingly well. tall enough they dont scratch too much into it, and sloped so they can stand in it if they like, but not too deep that they'll drown. plenty of water to last the day, it's big enough they cant knock it over yet either. new water system is in the works, now that the roof is done.
Here's my outside door to the coop. plenty large enough for me and everything to fit in and out. I have a rubber mat on the floor over stained and sealed plywood for easy cleaning, just roll it up, and out it all comes. works great!
All i keep inside are food, water, and the roost. you can see that it all comes out easily, no tear down required.
Just close the pop door and i can clean the coop to my hearts content. I have water and their main food in the run. eventually the pop door will remain open at night, once they feather in and bulk up some more.
and that's all for now! paint and electric to come, along with the wheels for the tractor part (i promise!!!).
Thank you for 'pecking in' on our progress
