I bought 6 chicks 2 days ago from Tractor Supply. I bought 4 in the bin marked pullets (one is yellow and is getting white wings, one os yellow with 3 black spots on its head and two are a redish brown color) I have no clue as to what breeds these are, because this is my first time and I don't really know much about the different kinds.

The last 2 I got were in the tub marked ' Assorted Bantams' one of the is a very light gray color and the other is brown with a thick black stripe down the middle of its back and 2 smaller stripes on either side of it. And I also have no clue what they are either.

When I asked the clerk, she said pullets and bantams... not very helpful...

Welcome to the world of chick shopping at TSC, where the employees are friendly but usually not educated about the livestock they sell. If you can post photos of your chicks, that would make helping you ID them much more easy.

I'm guessing your bantam with the black stripe kind of looks like a chipmunk stripe, with thin white and brown stripes in there, too? And pale tan/beige around the face and eyes? That would be an Old English Game bantam. The light gray one is a mystery from the description. Does it (or do any of the standard sized chicks) have down on its legs, or are the legs feather free?

Please post photos so we can help!

You are doing better than mine- I am still going to check on Tuesday when they get the next batch in, but the guy said they were getting cornish rocks. I will have to go and see what they actually have. if they are only getting cornishes, I am not sure I wouldn't rather wait for the only other feed store to get the Ameracaunas right before Easter, seeing as we want eggs and not meat.

Most of the workers are just folks. They are working what is essentially a retail store job. It only pays what it pays, and that isn't much.

No one should assume such workers, who only have endure the chick insanity for a few weeks a year, know anything about them, and those who might appear to know, oft times know the least. Look, it just it what it is. Caveat emptor.

Chick number 3 and 4 look like the Tetra Tints that I got from my local TSC.

They grow up to be white and I've read lay either brown/cream colored eggs.

Hope it helps.

hey there! welcome to BYC! make sure you scroll down the index, find the where am i where are you thread, hit the one marked yo, georgians and sign in! we are growing very fast!

as for your chicks, i got 8 from TSC, and like many others who have, we're kinda sorta just waiting till they lose the fuzz and grow their feathers so we can tell what they are! LOL so many of us have some from the 'commercial black' bin and they all seem to look different, who knows what they'll turn out to be

#2 looks like the one I got from tsc two weeks ago - does it have black feet? does it have 5 toes? if so, you have a silkie...looks just like mine.
