Is there any truth to what’s been said about tractor supply layer feed cause hens to stop laying? Is it just the layer feed or all feeds? I have been using Purina Flock Raiser from TS for year. Is this something I should concerned about?

For me, yes, it was true. I only fed my 35 laying hens purina feed and out of those 35 hens I was maybe getting 3 eggs every 4-5 days. I've now switched them, added in black sunflower seeds, and give them sprouted lentils. here's what I got today so far. 30 eggs. I just switched them a little less than 2 weeks.

They don't make feed, they sell feed.
From the start the premise has been illogical.
Then people can't even agree on which feed is affected or what the problem is.

You experienced an increase in eggs over the last two weeks because this is when chickens start picking up laying again every year due to increased daylight. I went from 1-2 eggs a day over the winter to an average of a dozen a day this month with no feed switching. So has just about everyone else on here regardless if they changed feed or not.

In the last 2 weeks the daylight levels have been increasing. This is the natural start of yearly laying. Otherwise known as Spring!

A few weeks ago I was getting 3 eggs a week from my 6 hens. Now I am getting 3-5 eggs a day from the same hens. I never changed their feed. It's the time of the year for eggs. The more hours of daylight, the more eggs there are.

Past birds were Fed the Dumor chick start then to layer mix. These were RIRs Bar Rks and Buff Rks all did well and layed all through winter with no light stimulatiion . Now starting a new flock and plan on using the Dumor.

No, because my birds are on that feed and never stopped laying. They didn't lay quite as frequently, but they laid through winter. I'm getting eggs from all of my layers now. Never switched feed.

Yes for us we went from having TOO MANY eggs & having to sell them..to ZERO eggs. Our hens have always laid year around no matter what… It has nothing to do with Weather for us… They completely stopped laying and we even had one die!! We recently switched to a co-op. So we are trying to fix the problem.
