Went into TSC to stock up on feed and bedding. Went over to look at the chicks, and was strong on resisting the urge to buy any.

Then I saw the sign! It was a sign! Special: Week old Leghorn pullets. $1 each. Here in Rhode Island the purchase minimum is 12 chicks. They had 12 left. Did I mention it was a sign?

To me, them being a week old feels like a bonus - one week less to feed them, one week less cleaning out the brooder, one week older to avoid possible health issues.

But clearly I’m in the minority...the regular price was $3.49, so $1 was a pretty heavy discount. Looks like we’ll be adding some white eggs to our current brown, green, blue, copper, and cream colored ones!

That's an excellent price.
With all them colors in a carton, I bet you could get 7 bucks a dozen.

I'm glad I don't live in RI. Six is minimum here. GC

I believe it was a sign that you should add some Leghorns to your flock. They are my favorite chicken breed for laying eggs. From my experience they lay lots of huge white eggs.

I have a love/hate relationship with TSC. The same thing happened to me last weekend. Luckily my local store has a 4 chick minimum, but 1$ for pullets is a steal! Now I have to avoid even driving by the store, or I will end up with way too many chicks.

I did the same last year at the TSC in Griswold, CT i was on my way home to RI stopped to buy grain and they were selling all the ducks and chicks for $1, i bought 40, tough to resist, built 2 more coops !!!

40? Wow...wouldn’t have thought they had that many cheap...quite the score!

Wonder if the late-season TSC chick days will be close enough to my late Aug/Sept target date for adding another 50 or so. I’d take a few of them at $1 each instead of $3.50!
