Hi. I would possibly like chickens and I have never had them or built a coop or anything but I have wanted them for a while and researched them and stuff for a while so I know some stuff but I wouldnt exactly say I am a pro yet lol, but this and other chicken sites have definately helped a lot. Sorry, mega run on sentance I know, sorry. But anyways I was on the TSC (Tractor Supply Co.) website and I was looking at the chicken stuff and I decided to go to the know how central section and clicked on/looked at the chicken part/tips and stuff. and I was just wondering if these tips/this info is good and accurate and correct info on chickens and chicks and stuff. So far I have only clicked on and read the raising chicks one but I will and am going to read/click on/look at the other ones but I was just curious if it was good info. Here is the link to that part of the site:

http://www.tractorsupply.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/WcmDisplay?langId=-1&storeId=10551&catalogId=10001&contentName=%2ftractorsupply%2fknowhow%2fknowhowcentralpage

or you can just go to the tsc website and here is the link to that:

http://www.tractorsupply.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Home_10551_10001

its www.tractorsupply.com

if worst comes to worst and none of these links work you can just google 'tractor supply' and click on the first or second website. its www.tractorsupply.com

sorry a lot of run ons i know sorry.

thanks in advance.

None of the links worked for me and on dialup I'm not going to fight with the main tsc website to browse thru til I find the articles...

...but, in general the best thing for you to do, to get good information, is to read A VARIETY OF SOURCES of information on how to keep chickens. Rather than relying on just one. There is a lot of good info here (click on "learning center" at the very tippy top of the page, and also browse threads that seem relevant or interesting); if I recall correctly www.mypetchicken.com also has a very good basic introduction-to-chickens tutorial available for free on their website. And there are a bazillion other sources of information available online (try google).

Books can also be useful - again, not just ONE book, read several or more - probably the best single source I'd recommend would be "Storey's Guide to Raising Chickens" by Gail Damerow but there are lots of other good books out there too, just see what your library can get you via interlibrary loan.

Good luck, have fun,

Pat

Thank you Pat. and sorry about the links, I just tested them just now and all but the last one said broken, I did not realize they were broken when I posted, sorry. see I have Comcast not dial up so internet is faster for me but I do get/understand what you mean when the page/computer just wont load, it can be very frustrating. again i appoligize about that and sorry for the inconveniance. Oh and thanks for all the info it all sound very good and intreging, i will have to check it out, look for that my pet chicken thing (I have been to the site before, thats one of the sites i was reffering to when i said i have been on loads of chicken sites but did not see it yet so I will have to look for that as it sounds very helpful), and i will have to see what my library has and/or what my local bookstore/Borders has in the way of chicken books and see if they have/carry that one. Thank you for all your help.

I agree with Pat. I did a lot of research before I got my birds.

Gail Damerow's 'Storey's Guide to Chickens' is an excellent resource, as well as this web site which is an excellent source of information.

These sites are especially helpful in selecting breeds.
