How do I train my chicks to go in to their coop at night

How old are they?
My experience has been you have to physically put them in for at least 2 nights before they understand.

I locked my first set in the coop for a week before I let them into the run. For the second set (when I had older birds), I put them in the coop every night until they got it. About 10 days.

Are they still secure if they're not in the coop? Mine have a secure run that they can overnight in if they want. I let them decide where to sleep.
