race birds raised from young, train by releasing them from 5m, 10m, 40m and 70m after the start ranging and flying in a flock/ kit.... do about 3 of each distance at least before taking them to 120m....

What kind of race pigeon is a good breed? I know nothing about pigeons. Also, where would I go about getting some?

Just to clear things up Aspen, you want be able to train the pigeons to go between two lofts. Though it has been done before by having water at one loft, and food at another, the pigeon probably wont travel 120 miles to get a drink. How it works, is that you train the pigeon to one loft, and when somebody goes to the house 120 miles away, they can release the homing pigeon and it will return to the one loft. So, it will require somebody to transport the pigeons to the release point. Just wanted to make sure you understand how it works exactly.

definetly do your homework before you get pigeons. there are a lot of things to consider before taking on the project. one thing is that you can go from 6 pigeons to 60 VERY QUICKLY! lol. they are quite prolific and if your not careful, you can wind up with many very cute, but unwanted pigeies. fast. pigeons require special care for them to stay healthy. they need PROPER food, shelter and water. heres a link to a great resorce on basic pigeon care http://www.angelfire.com/ga3/pigeongenetics/basicpigeoncare.html good luck if you decide to take up the hobbie.
