Well everyday is a new day with the ducks. Today I decided to give them lettuce,..and what pigs they are lettuce flying everywhere, thank goodness they do clean up after and scout about eating what flung.
So I figured I might as well make a training sessions out of it. I would whistle, show them the food, they run to me like rabid dogs flinging their lettuce about chomping away.
Anyhow it took a few times and I would let some time pass and then go back and now when I whistle they come running like mad chickens.
During the day I keep them in the kitchen, the brooder even though it's sizeable, they are just too quickly bored to tears in there,..so I let them out and periodically follow their trail with paper towels, just call me poop patrol. Anyhow now I started with putting a paper towel bunch down folded and thick and when I put it down they promptly go over and lay on it.
I am kinda shocked, but they really are trainable. Food gets me everywhere.
This is my first time having such animals, so everyday is just amazing to me. The boundaries of what I think is possible just keeps expanding.

Honey you can teach them to do lots of stuff! Weve had ducks for years and never a boring dull moment! Heck we even trained our Buff Orps. to do tricks for popcorn;)

cool keep on doing it . this may be a good thing

SHare, share, share,..what else have you trained them to do...come on details. I love it. I am so excited to have other people with ducks to share with. The people around me kind of give me that look,..LOL

well they know how to jump through a hoola hoop (its not on fire or anything spectacular like that), they will run "races", dont have to carry them or worry if they get out, they will jump up on anything or go anywhere that they think popcorn is involved.......People say chickens/ducks are stupid, BUT they are NOT! Have fun with your birds, their will definatley be no lack of entertainment;)

O and my little boys like to "help" train them so its definatley a good time to bond and have fun!
