Training Shickens to roost

Can you teach them to sleep on the roost's. And if so How is it done?

I would first block off the ledge they sleep on now, then at night, put them on the roost and give them treats. Do it every night until they get it.
How old/big are your chickens? Are they able to easily fly up to the roost and do they have a soft landing coming down? My silkies ignored the roost I made for them until I lowered it, now they all cram on it and jostle each other for the best spot.

The lowest roost you do see is only about 18" off the floor with plenty of shavings.
