Into our first winter with our new chicken family. So much learned , but so much more to absorb . I only hope I'm doing this right ; I'm not familiar with using threads, forums, etc. This group looks like a wealth of knowledge.

Tranquility, I like that. Welcome to BYC. Just click on forums/ threads and search away. We are a friendly group - the mods keep us that way.

Welcome to BYC. I'm glad you decided to join our flock. I hope things are going well with your flock this winter. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. What kind of chickens do you have?

Thank you for the warm welcome!! We have five fine chickens, each a different breed..Don't know if that's a no no but we love them all. Beaker here is our one rooster.

You're welcome. I would suggest getting a few more hens to go with Beaker as the recommended ratio is 1 rooster for every 10 hens. As Beaker matures, he will likely become very hard physically on only 4 hens; over-breeding them, biting and plucking the feathers from their necks and backs, battering them, and potentially, serious injuring them. The only reason you need a rooster is to fertilize eggs for hatching, and 1 rooster can easily handle 10 hens in this regard. Good luck with your flock.
