Our 6x6 coop is finished. The chicks will be 2 weeks old tomorrow, & I'd like to allow them to spend some time each day in the coop. The floor is vinyl & I'm using sand (haven't put that out yet). The chicks haven't had access to any sand/grit since they're only eating starter & a one time treat of yogurt. My question is: Should they be given a little sand in their brooder box before they're put in the coop with the sand?

You could but I don't know that it will be needed. I had my chicks in the garage on the floor with pine shavings. They moved out to the coop which has shavings in one area and the rest is dirt. They LOVE taking dust bathes.
