I am looking for a different option for a cage to put in the run when I integrate my baby chicks. I have one of those cheap wooden cages that is about 3 feet long. It is made to hook onto a coop but I don’t have it hooked on. It is flimsy and falling apart. I’ve used it for a few years now and I think it’s time to upgrade.
I am open to any suggestions. I was thinking about using turkey transport boxes. You know, the orange ones. I think they were called rent a coop or something like that. Just like with my current set up I would of course keep the top covered to keep the rain off and use a mama hen heating pad set up to keep them warm.
I am looking for a cage that will last, is lightweight, and won’t take up too much room in the garage. I think these plastic ones can be broken down when you’re not using them. Has anybody tried this? Did it seem to work? Thanks for any input you may have.

How old are they when you are putting them out there? If they are old enough and/or it is warm enough out to integrate then you shouldn't need a heat source.
I use a ground level rabbit hutch that I got on craigslist.

I have a couple of these ... the plastic bottom can be taken out, and put on top outside ... for shade ... the bottom has 4"-5" squares, do if you put it on the coop floor or run, that material will be in the crate ... or out on the grass too!

These fold up when you want to store it.
