transporting 3 adult runners, and introducing them.

This from the lady I got the runners from:
“ They have had blue seal layer pellets and cracked corn mix, I forget what it is called from tractor supply, a scratch feed for ducks and chickens was the cracked. Corn mix from TSC”

They did pick at some dry meal worms but I don’t see evidence of any other eating except for a couple dimples in the starter crumbles but no scooping marks. And nothing on the Nutrina flock raiser.
I am going to try some
Mash with the crumbles.
Where do I find the afore mentioned electrolytes? Is that a TSC thing? Is it duck specific ?
I use DurVet Viamines & Electtrlytes for cattle 8oz bag soluble power. I teaspoon to a gallon of water. Maybe someone else can post the link to this BYC thread. There is other dosage info there for a 4oz bag. Also SavAChic is another brand that I have used also if you can find that? No sure what TSC has available in store, we ordered ours online. Hope this helps and good luck.

I checked TSC, they didn’t seem to have it in store. I have my local feed store I’ll check tomorrow. One of them is making a heck of a racket quacking when she thinks no one is there . Peek in and they all run and cower😢
Long road I guess. What stinks is that we have to move them from the basement (walk out) to the duck yard, so further freaking them out. Going to leave them down there for tonight.

Sorry to hear your having such a difficult time with them. I am a Newbie here myself and sorry I can't offer up much help for you on this issue. A side from time I am at a loss, those electrolytes should help greatly with the stress.

I’ve had Runners a little over 4 yrs and I can honestly say they aren’t like other breeds of duck. They are flighty and nervous have a high metabolism. But if you just go about your normal day around them they will get use to routine and in time begin to feel at home. You have any idea how much human interaction they had? they don’t do change well. Maybe once you get them out around the other ducks they’ll start eating just have multiple feeders an water buckets so they won’t get bullied.

We went and sat with them quietly for a while tonight, they have a variety of foods to choose from. Duck feed, starter crumbles, peas, strawberry tops, meal worms and sweet peppers. They won’t get near us, if I am on one end of the brooder they are on the other. But the fawn runners keep closing their eyes as though resting. Hopefully that is a good sign they are starting to relax, and they stand together but no longer resemble one 3 headed duck with 6 legs. So far no takers on the offerings while we were there, but the white one poked at the peas and strawberries. None of them have been in water yet but I have a cut down 5 gallon pail in there for their dabbling pleasures, it’s about 3 gallons and the white one is looking much cleaner in the bill.. in fact they all are, I can see nostrils now and she can breath with her bill shut. I am going to try to rig up a camera to watch them tonight but we shall see.

We put them out this morning, had a section fenced off inside the enclosure. Everyone seemed to want to get along so we let them together. Might have been a bad idea, a fair amount of bullying ensued and a neck bite fight that seemed to be instigated by the white runner. This video didn’t get the worst of it. We ended up putting them in the small enclosure for the day. 😕
Also one of the fawn and white has a tag clipped to her wing up near her body. How do I get to off? I’ll try to get a picture tonight

Great video post ! :celebrate nice set up you have for them outside, they look much happier. Since there introduction into the flock is new for everyone, they need a little time to establish their pecking order. Back to this being a time issue. As long as no one is seriously hurting another this will work it's self out. Do you have a large enough coop for everyone at night?

Coop is 8x8 5’tall. Actually it’s 12’ tall but not in their area.
