transporting 3 adult runners, and introducing them.

Well no one seems the worst for wear today, I do worry about the runners not getting enough to eat and the others getting too much because I am offering in multiple locations... which is quite pointless as they all go together no matter what. However we shall see how it goes. It is sad to watch them, skittering around the edges wishing they could be involved but not being allowed, like a fat kid in dodgeball, wanting to be a part of the game but never allowed.

From your picture it looks like everyone is doing ok. Miss Lydia can correct me if I am wrong, but I believe in an earlier post she stated that runners can be kind of flighty. So it must be in their nature to be a little skittish around the others until they feel more comfortable. I would guess they are called runners for a reason. If something is not feeling right to them they are not going to waste any time going in the other direction. You have had them now for a few days, I cant imagine they are not eating ?

They don’t seem to like the duck food of any variety, they run around with their bills in the grass, and they would eat peas, strawberries watermelon etc if they were left alone and allowed to, at this point I’m wondering how to address the others not letting them eat. Just adding more feeding spots just means the original 5 will pig out and the runners still won’t be allowed to eat. If I see some progress to this end soon I’ll feel better. As it was last night with the evening peas it was pretty heart breaking watching our big ones pig out and keep the new ones away.
Fingers crossed

I understand better now. Now you would be back to separating them and slowing the process of them being one flock. IMO, you might just have to roll the dice and let them work things out. As long as no one and or more are not ganging up on them and trying to hurt them, just need to give it time.

I kinda figure it needs time. My wife is worried it’s going to be like our cats, they can’t be in the same room for more than 5 minutes, we thought they would figure it out.. 3 years ago.

To Cute, we have ducks that loves the hose spray also. I was going to put one of those little round plastic fixed sprinkles in their runway with a control valve on the hose. That should produce a few pics to post ! LOL :)

It has been interesting watching the behavior of the ducks and learning what certain behavior means. For instance Squabbles, our boisterous Pekin hen, never leaves the drakes side and she (since the introduction of the new runners) has taken to this chattery noise and head bobbing in a not so friendly way. Seems, based on what I’ve been reading and watching on the web, that this is her way of laying claim to the drake. Scuba, the other female Pekin is pretty mellow and seems to take the new runners in stride, I haven’t seen her nip at them all and she will occasionally wander off a bit with them foraging. Of the Rouens while they mixed seamlessly with the original flock they seem to stick together more now and they are both apt to charge the runners if they get too close to the feed or water. They all seem to sleep together however intermixed with no particular rhyme or reason to their arrangement and they forage together, they all move as a flock, though the runners seem to be just following along. Our drake stands sentry by the pool or by the food dish and really only dives into the middle when it’s time for peas, of which the runners don’t get any. I’ve divided the peas into 2 bowls in hopes that they will have the opportunity to get in on the goodies but they don’t dive in and approach too cautiously, only to get run off, usually by one of the Rouens. They are still very skittish, but if the rest of the flock is nearby they will approach quite close.. but very cautiously. Night time seems to be peaceful enough I try not to spy as the light on the camera flips the runners out and they get up and stir up the rest. But when I have checked they seem to be all still, I see runner heads standing often but they seem calm though wary .
