Hi I'm completely new to hatching chickens. I have followed so much of this forums advice over the past few week. Thanks everyone! I have a specific question that I can't seem to find any answers to. I hatched 6 baby chickens 2 days ago. 5 were perfect but the 6th came out with part of it's yoke sac unabsorbed. I have done so much research on what to do and she is still alive and doing reasonably well although much smaller than the others and unfortunately only eating from a syringe. She stayed alone in the incubator until this morning and I have now moved her into the brooder with the others although she is separated in there. I'm a bit concerned about tomorrow (should she make it) as we have to go to my mums house for Easter and it will be all day. I only have one heat plate that the others will need. I am thinking of putting her back in the incubator and taking her with me so that I can feed her. I can't seem to find any guidelines around doing this so I'm also concerned that there may be something wrong with the idea. The fan does seem loud and I'm not sure about oxygen levels. Any suggestions would be very appreciated!

is the yolk still unabsorbed?
She needs to be placed into a cup lined with dry papertowels and put back in the incubator until it is all absorbed. Depending on the amount left it could be a few hours.
Could you share a photo?
Was she assisted out of the shell?

if she has yolk left, she does not need feeding. She will not need food or water until it is absorbed. It would be best to leave her in the incubator to absorb the yolk, in a cup, made comfortable with dry paper towels.
Does she currently have any heat? You say you only have one heating plate for the others? What is keeping her warm?

Thanks for replying! No not assisted out of the shell although the others hatched quite a bit before and were pecking away at the pip for some time. She/he did the unzipping herself. I put her in a cup for the first day but it didn't seem to do anything and the yoke seemed to be drying out. I now have her in a small box that is half under the brooder plate and the remainder of the chicks have the remainder of the plate. The yoke sac is getting dryer but not smaller. The opening to her tummy seems to be getting smaller. The yoke sac seems to be getting pushed away from her tummy somehow. She has definitely been much more active and stronger today but not interested in getting her own food. I'm really concerned about how to feed her tomorrow without bringing the lot of them to mums house - which I will do if people think that the incubator idea is not good.

It wasn't that much of the yoke that wasn't absorbed. I'd say it is about the size of a blueberry. I franticly searched what to do on here. Most of the stories regarding yoke sacs have sad endings so I'm not holding much hope but definitely will do what I can while she is fighting and doesn't seem to be in pain.

drying up sounds normal, then, could you show a photo?

not always! I've heard some happy endings recently. If it was the size of a blueberry, and drying up, I think he'll be okay, as long as it isn't infected.
A photo will help me advise what would be best-
What is she currently on? Wood shavings? Puppy pad? Paper towels?
Keep her on something soft if you can, like a puppy pad or paper towels.

This is the best that I can get. She is very dirty as i have been applying antibiotic ointment and it is helping to stick the poo to her. It definitely looks like the yoke sac is getting pushed away from her body. Do you agree? Any thoughts on keeping her in the incubator today? She is day 3 today. Tiny compared to the others but full of life so far.
