Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Mine wear off some of the foot feathering depending on how much they scratch. I have to watch for mudballs. I usually have straw down on the dirt for winter.

Trimming in front of the eyes helps them. I usually trim about a quarter inch above the eye going to the point of the comb. Enough feathers are left to flop some and cover the short feathers

Yeah; the new bedding is starting to clump up in a way I don’t like, so I think I’ll bring them inside and give them at least a little foot bath. I don’t want to get them all the way wet if I don’t need to in this weather; they tolerate being handled but it’s not their favorite, lol. They do take treats from the kids and my adult friends who have come over to hang out on the porch.

The run is mostly dry - there are two areas where rain sometimes drips along the frame but the top layer of bedding stays dry and I try to keep things like the little wood cube they climb around and the metal feed bucket over the areas that get damp so that they don’t dig in there, and I go in and turn everything over at least once a week.

It was pricy but I got another 20lbs of aspen to add to the run in the hopes that it’ll help mitigate the new bedding. I might also go pick up a box of hemp. Trying to avoid straw; I can get it easily and it’s cheaper but I am stupid allergic to hay and will get a rash and hay fever really bad.

Can’t wait till we finally get back into growing season. I want to re sod the yard; I managed to kill all my grass taking my sweet time building the coop this summer.
